Steelmaking Electric Furnace: An Introduction to the Advantages of the Water-Cooled Furnace Cover

Traditional furnace covers for steelmaking electric furnaces predominantly employ a masonry structure composed of refractory bricks. However, this design suffers from several drawbacks, including frequent brick cracking, subpar overall performance, high energy consumption, a short service life, and lengthy maintenance periods.

To address these issues, a tube-type water-cooled furnace cover has been developed for steelmaking electric furnaces. This innovative design offers numerous advantages, including low energy consumption, an extended service life, and ease of replacement and maintenance.

The water-cooled furnace cover is realized through the installation of water-cooling blocks onto the hangers of the furnace cover frame using bolts. The small furnace cover is then positioned onto the furnace cover frame via positioning pins located on the inner ring of the frame, forming a complete furnace cover assembly. The water-cooling block is constructed by welding closely arranged elbows, including 180° and 90° elbows, to ensure efficient water circulation.

Similarly, the small furnace cover is also welded using tightly arranged elbows of the same specifications. The furnace cover frame itself is welded together from several components, including an outer ring, an inlet pipe, a return water main pipe, a return pipe, and an inner ring. The two ends of the inlet pipe, return water main pipe, and return pipe are welded to both the outer and inner rings. Hangers are welded onto the inlet pipe, return water main pipe, and return pipe, while lifting lugs and an inlet main flange are welded onto the outer ring. Positioning pins are welded onto the inner ring to facilitate precise alignment during assembly.

The new water-cooled furnace cover utilizes the cooling effect of the water-cooling block and the circulating water within the small furnace cover's water pipes to effectively dissipate heat. This results in significantly lower energy consumption compared to traditional refractory brick structures. Under normal operating conditions, the service life of the water-cooled furnace cover can exceed 1,500 furnaces, which is more than 200 times longer than that of a refractory brick furnace cover. Additionally, the split structure of the furnace cover makes it easy to replace and maintain, as well as convenient to transport.
